When we think about celebrities nowadays we sometimes don’t think about them as human beings outside of their associated media. When we watch classic movies and access music channels through satellite companies, we don’t think of the lives of these artists outside of it all. We watch Jimmy Stewart in Vertigo or Rear Window but we neglect the part of his history where he achieved the role of Brigadier General in Vietnam. And, as an inverse, we might look at the life of a political figure like Ronald Reagan and not realize that before his ascension he was a notable movie actor. The same goes for Elvis – sure, we all know his music but few of us really know about his involvement in the Army.

When Elvis was induced into the U.S. Army he was under no illusion about his identity. He even stated that the service could do whatever it wanted with him and he demonstrated this humility time and time again during training. In many ways, he wanted to be seen as a human being outside of the music industry and his positive approach to the military demonstrated this.

While some might argue that it was all a political stunt to garner more attention for his return to music, few can argue with the facts that point to more than two years where he placed himself in danger defending his country. He even donated a sizable portion of his income to the service.

Blue Hawaii; Elvis’s 8th movie, is an entertaining, fun-filled romp set in beautiful Hawaii. Elvis plays Chad Gates, a rich kid just out of the army. His parents want him to go to work at their fruit company, but he wants to try out his wings. He chooses to work as a tour guide at his girlfriend’s agency. It was Elvis’s third highest grossing movie making roughly 34.5 million. Of course, an Elvis movie wouldn’t be an Elvis movie without plenty of good tunes. The soundtrack was the 1 overall album of 1961 spending 20 consecutive weeks at 1. It gave us the beautiful “Can’t Help Falling In Love”.

I personally think that critics were too hard on Elvis’s movies. His movies were pretty good, and his acting wasn’t bad at all. I would rather watch one of his movies than 75 of the movies put out today. A few of my personal favorites are “Roustabout” and “Kid Galahad”. The same is true about his music. It is incomparable. They will be playing his songs long after many of today’s artists have been forgotten.

Elvis will always be “The King” and deservedly so. There will never be another like him.

What do you visualize when you see a sunset or a sunrise? Besides the fact that it is the most beautiful natural sight, it symbolizes eternity. Every day sun will set and every morning it will rise and shine as bright as ever. We take this for an eternal fact. Similarly Elvis Presley and his songs are eternal.

Undoubtedly Elvis Presley is a legend. Elvis has over 800 songs to his credit and each and every one of them is magical. Elvis understood the meaning of music, lived it and made it eternal.Didn-t catch that? This explains it. Every song of his had a brightness much like the brightness of sunlight and it gave us hope for many more to come!

This King of Rock ‘n Roll not only understood music, but he also had an iconic presence and appearance. As soon as we hear the name Elvis, that iconic image comes to mind within a fraction of a second. His songs are loved by one and all and have an amazing effect on our lives much like the rays of sunshine. We are so fortunate to have a legend like Elvis who has given us the gift of love and music to cherish for ever.

On the 34th anniversary of the death of Elvis Presley, his music and memory never fade. His good looks and extraordinary talent, and phenomenal voice, of course, have kept his fans riveted for nearly half a century.

Some of Elvis’ best music was his rock and roll hits. “Jailhouse Rock” comes to mind first. Then, of course, his rendition of “Blue Suede Shoes.” Who can forget Elvis rocking along while swinging his hips, early in his career, causing him to be partially censored on “The Ed Sullivan Show?!” Of course, this earned him the nickname, “Elvis the Pelvis!”

Personally, though, I feel two of his better rock songs came later in his career. These songs would be “Burnin’ Love” and “Suspicious Minds.” Both have melodies and rhythms that stick with you long after the songs are over. “Burnin’ Love’s” lyrics are, still, well, hot! “Your kisses take me higher, like a sweet song of a choir. You rock my mornin’ sky…burnin’ love.” Wow, right?

While “Burnin’ Love” is clearly about a newer, passionate love, “Suspicious Minds” certainly has a different message and feel. “We can’t go on together with suspicious minds.”, is clearly about a lack of trust in love.
