Shake, Rattle And Roll With The King
On the 34th anniversary of the death of Elvis Presley, his music and memory never fade. His good looks and extraordinary talent, and phenomenal voice, of course, have kept his fans riveted for nearly half a century.
Some of Elvis’ best music was his rock and roll hits. “Jailhouse Rock” comes to mind first. Then, of course, his rendition of “Blue Suede Shoes.” Who can forget Elvis rocking along while swinging his hips, early in his career, causing him to be partially censored on “The Ed Sullivan Show?!” Of course, this earned him the nickname, “Elvis the Pelvis!”
Personally, though, I feel two of his better rock songs came later in his career. These songs would be “Burnin’ Love” and “Suspicious Minds.” Both have melodies and rhythms that stick with you long after the songs are over. “Burnin’ Love’s” lyrics are, still, well, hot! “Your kisses take me higher, like a sweet song of a choir. You rock my mornin’ sky…burnin’ love.” Wow, right?
While “Burnin’ Love” is clearly about a newer, passionate love, “Suspicious Minds” certainly has a different message and feel. “We can’t go on together with suspicious minds.”, is clearly about a lack of trust in love.
